‘BIG DATA & TECHNOLOGY AND WHY KENYAN RETAILERS ARE SEEMINGLY LAGGING BEHIND.’

Jeff Bezos is again the richest man in the World. His wealth has mostly to do with retail and e-commerce, or at least that's the genesis of it all. He currently boasts of a net-worth of  $108.9 billion, making him not only the richest man in the World but also the richest man ever in history. In case you have never heard of the guy (and you must be living under a rock if so), Jeff Bezos is the founder and current CEO of Amazon.com. He founded Amazon in 1994 which started as an online bookstore before eventually venturing into other products and services.  Today, Amazon is the largest internet retailer company in the world measured by both market capitalization and revenue. At only 54 years of age, he has built an empire and lasting legacy for himself. Over the years, the multi-billionaire has also ventured in other sectors like the media (he bought the Washington post in 2013) and aerospace among others.  Technology One of the reasons why Amazon continues to be a leader in t

Graft lessons we can learn from the Orient.

Even with the dramatic events of the World cup of 2018, corruption in Kenya still remains as one of the highly debated topics by citizens during this period. The past several months brought to light scandals that have bewildered most of us and they have left us wondering when the camel's back will finally break. The big question, of course, remains to be how long this country will continue holding these discussions without any conceivable and significant positive outcome for   Wanjiku and a massive turn around in the way we handle our public coffers. South East Asia Singapore has in the past, and on many occasions, been used in contrast with our country’s economy. Since its independence, Singapore has gradually grown to a highly developed market economy, which is highly dependent on export trade. Between the years 1965 and 1995, it’s estimated that the country’s economy was able to achieve an annual growth rate of 6% p.a. This was viewed as a great contributor to the trans

MEN vs CRAZY WOMEN!!!

This is my third blog this year! Quite a remarkable improvement in my writing trend considering I only wrote one for the whole of 2013. I am doing so well this year I might get to six seeing that its only mid year. So I have picked the best topic a woman can indulge in for my third blog post. Men. Yes really, men!  We women love discussing men just as much as you men discuss women with your 'bruhs' at the sports bar table as you sip your single malt whiskey or bottle of lager. We also get together with the girls and ponder about you weird creatures and how far we are from fully understanding what you are all about! It might be true, no woman will fully understand a man and the reverse may also be true. So I choose to come close. And I choose to major in communication between a man and a woman. How hard is it to say what is on one's mind when it comes to being a man? I have never been one but I have dealt with a few so I'll give my opinion. I won't say all men are

THE DISAPPOINTMENTS OF A 25 YEAR OLD KENYAN !!!

Poverty is a main challenge in Kenya as it is in most developing countries. The need for sustainable growth and development is essential for poverty eradication. Most young people strive hard to achieve their educational goals with the expectation of employment as their ultimate source of livelihood. This however most often than not does not come to pass. Most of them end up frustrated and result to crime as a way of survival. This does not have to be the case. The youth need to be educated on ways in which they can engage in entrepreneurship as a source of livelihood. The youth also needs to be informed that they don't have to seek employment after studies but they themselves can become employers.   I am a 25 years old graduate from the University of Nairobi where I attained my bachelors in B.S.c Mathematics.  Sounds fancy, I know but it isn't all that really. I remember growing up with so many hopes and expectations. I had all I needed to achieve planned out and nothin

MY JOB IS A JOKE ,BUT I'M NOT THE ONE DOING THE LAUGHING!

Its been a cold morning. Too cold that even a hot cup of coffee did nothing for me. Or were they two? The weather this month has been too unpredictable! I say unpredictable because yesterday when I woke up, the sun was bright and shining. However by the time the afternoon came round, things were not so shiny. Something my friends and I frequently refer  to as 'Weather PMSing'. We haven't claimed ownership of the poor weather description cliché' so no need for stone throwing. Well, the reason why I am so focussed on the weather is because it reminds me of my life recently. Undecided as well. Some days I've been waking up feeling on top of the world while some days I just want the ground to swallow me alive.  Yes, I know most people may feel the same way about their lives as well but this is my blog so lets concentrate on my feelings this time round. My job seems so tedious nowadays and it has done nothing but assure me that I'm in the wrong profession. Yes, I a

"POLY-TICKS"

Over the past couple of weeks I have refrained myself from making political comments during discussions with friends and family or on social media. Don't get me wrong, its not from the lack of bundles from my expensive service provider. Its not that I have been too busy either. And its not that the 140 characters provided by twitter are not enough to "shout out"  a few curse words. I have just been avoiding the heart breaks. Politics in Kenya is worse than that feeling you get once things between you and the person who you think is the love of your life just don't seem to be working out. With every newspaper or bulletin headline, some small part of me dies. I am no Mutahi Ngunyi and I will give no workable theories with tyrannies in them, but surely something has got to be a  miss. Its true, most of us Kenyans don't know much about how this devolved government is supposed to work but excuse me for thinking the politicians seem  to know even less or at least they are

The little things that matter the most!!

Its been a long two weeks since Sept the 7th and if you are wondering what was going on then, its just the last day i blogged! A lot has happened since, but most importantly Ive been more sure about myself and about what life has to offer! Ive come to realize that I'm actually one lucky woman even though it dont always see it and appreciate it like I should! Ive appreciated my good friends more coz lets be honest there are many people out there who sit alone for hours without having anyone to call or have anyone call them for that matter! Ive seen the heights a loving mother will go to make sure a daughter is more than OK! Ive seen love unfold in front of my own eyes and I'm never forgetting a friends's proposal to the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with,a first for me! Ive understood more about getting ahead with those that matter because they are the same people who will be around the longest! Ive realized that life isn't easy and no one said it would be
